I'm strict in recommending gaming laptops...or did I?

"It plays my games well - it's a good gaming laptop..." well first, that's not how you do reviews.

Some people thought that I'm too strict when recommending gaming laptops.

Let's say a gaming laptop runs hotter but has similar performance compared to other models with cooler temps. If I'm not strict on that, basically I can recommend almost all gaming laptops. So what's the point of choosing gaming laptops then? Just buy the cheapest possible gaming laptop with the specs you wanted.

Remember, low temps help in hardware longevity too. Even you get similar performance it doesn't mean that the model with worse cooling is worth buying. This is how I recommend laptops - you might not like my way but that's fine. Everyone has different opinions.

Next time don't ask me why I don't recommend cheapo models like Acer Nitro 5 and Asus FX505. Here is your answer.

  1. So as to say the same to zephyrus g GA502 then, i dont think the thin and light laptop will handle the thermal well enough (my opinion) as seen with the paired 1660ti + r7 3750h installed. At 4k+ price point, the strix G531 handles the temperature well, same goes to some of MSI products. I think that 80°C and below is a good temperature while gaming, 75°C n below is just blessing.

    1. There are thin and light gaming laptops with decent cooling

G531 1650/2070 doesn't handle heat well (probably need repaste together with max fans - which is very noisy)

MSI new models are overpriced and not worth it

    2. I see. I will look further into laptop with good cooling. I suggest that you blog a top 10 laptop gaming with good longevity(thermal, etc) and perfomance at various budget price, it will be nice too

    3. I already have a gaming laptop approval list in LYN forum. Here is the link

I don't like doing 'top 10' list or something similar. If the model is good then it's good. Unless you have some special requirements then you may PM me.

    4. Thanks! Will hustle to it. So far, I dont have any spec requirements or something from gaming laptop, just it will be good and sustainable, then Ill choose it. Thanks for the reply so far, your response to visitors is very good, 10/10!

  2. Hi, I was interested in buying the Asus Scar 15. However I found that the heatsink is different from Scar 3, as now both CPU and GPU get 2 shared heatpipes along with one dedicated for each of them. Also, I saw in a few reviews that the GPU was throttling at 86 degrees on the Scar 15. Any thoughts on this, as to why this is happening?

    1. It's using the same heatsink, just that CPU side heatsink is applied with LM. The heatsink isn't good for 115W GPUs at the first place. The extra heat dissipation from CPU and bad paste job on GPU are probably why it performs worse than previous model thermally, despite the same heatsink. Avoid the new Asus ROG with 2060 or higher GPUs, bad GPU thermal.

    2. So if we repaste the GPU with something better like IC Diamond/kryonaut, will it improve? Also I saw that the Zephyrus S also has the same 115W GPU, with wider heatpipes. Is that any better? Or, do you have any suggestions for a 115W laptop among MSI, Alienware, or any other brand which has good cooling? Thanks.

    3. Should improve but not by much. There are many options that can do better

You mean the 17 inch Zephyrus S?

PM me via LTT forum if you need suggestions, here isn't the right place

    4. Okay. Messaged you there at the same genexis_x name :) Hope thats correct.

  3. Totally agree your opinion, thermal always sucks

[GUIDE] How to undervolt laptop (Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU, 2021 revised version)

This is my own guide on how to undervolt Intel CPU / Nvidia GPU in your laptops. Hope you found it useful! Notes: This is my own method on how to do it. There are a lot of ways to undervolt CPU+GPU, but this is how I usually undervolt with all the laptops I had reviewed and with my own laptop I will try my best to make the explanation clear and will be using the undervolt profiles in my laptop as example As mentioned in the title, this guide is for those with Intel CPU (4th gen or later) or Nvidia GPU (10 series or later) or both only. Some laptops have BIOS version with Plundervolt patch that locks CPU voltage control, so take note You might brick your 10th/11th gen Intel laptop if you undervolted too much even with software like Throttlestop, I will not be responsible if something catastrophic happens To TGL-45 laptop owners: Only i7 and i9 has unlocked CPU voltage control, even so the laptop model itself might not allow you to undervolt the CPU. Check your laptop model first
